Mannheim Steamroller - Fresh Aire VI

Back in high school, I picked up a New Age cassette of Mannheim Steamroller's Fresh Aire VI, Impressions of Greek Mythology. I spent many inspirational hours with that tape dreaming of ancient Greece, especially as I had to read the Iliad and Odyssey during that summer break.

When we renovated the house in 2008, we had to pack everything up and store it in the garage. That tape was one of several that went missing, never to be found again.

Lo, and behold! This week I scored a $5 CD of Fresh Aire VI through Goodwill Industries. What memories it's brought back!

I've earned that the album was remastered in 2000. My particular favorites are the opening theme, "Come Home to the Sea" (listen to it and tell me you don't picture dolphins leaping through the waters of the wine-dark Aegean), the Rhodes suite (complete with kithara music fit for a snake goddess to dance to), and a singing contest between the Sirens and Muses, no less!

Some of the music's electronic effects might date it, but who cares?  Who makes albums based on Greek mythology anymore, anyway?

It's available through Amazon, so check it out.  You can get it at a reduced price, as I did.
